School Email Filtering
Last Updated 11 months ago

We have now retired SpamTitan as the School email filtering platform and moved over to Microsoft Office 365's built in email protection which brings with it a number of changes that should make managing blocked email more convenient.

Junk Folder

There will no longer be a daily quarantine report sent out, the vast majority of emails blocked by the system will now go directly to the Junk folder within your inbox where you are able to review and report emails that you do not wish to be blocked, emails that the system determines are malicious with a high degree of confidence will be quarantined and monitored by the IT department.

To prevent legitimate emails from arriving at your Junk folder, you can right click on an email message within the Junk folder and select Junk/Not Junk. This will report the message as safe to Microsoft and help to train the filter to not block similar messages in future.

Reporting Junk Email

On the ribbon in Outlook in the top right corner is a Report Message button, if you recieve an email that you believe to be malicious, select Phishing and if its just unwanted email select Junk. This not only blocks the sender from delivering email to you but helps to train the filter to block out unwanted emails for everyone.

Email Encryption

To send an email with encryption click on Options within a new email message, Select Encrypt and then Encrypt-Only. The first time you do this, the Encrypt-Only option may be missing and a link that says download templates is available, clicking on this will bring up the option as shown below:
